Properties

Barium Sulfate is Colorless orthorhombic crystals or white shaped powder. It is almost insoluble in water, ethanol and acid. Dissolved in hot concentrated sulfuric acid. Barium sulfate can be used as paint, ink, plastic, rubber and battery raw material or filler, surface coating agent for printing paper and coated paper, sizing agent for textile industry, glass products as a clarified agent, can play the role of defoaming and increasing luster, can be used as protective wall materials for radiation, but also used in ceramics, enamel, spices and pigments and other industries. It is also the raw material for the manufacture of other barium salts

Application

Barium sulfate is mainly used as weighting agent for oil and gas drilling mud, and is also an important mineral raw material for extracting and preparing various barium compounds. 

The use of barium compounds is very wide: barium sulfate can be used as rubber, plastic, pigment, coating, paper, textile, oil, paint, ink, welding rod raw materials and filler; Used as the raw material of barium base grease, oil refining, sugar making from beet and rayon. Used as insecticides, disinfectants, rodentcide, explosives, green fireworks, flares, tracers, medical X-ray indicators; Also used in glass, ceramics, leather, electronics, building materials, metallurgy and other departments.
