OIT is used as a broad spectrum biocide against bacteria and fungi. OIT is used in cooling tower and air washer water systems, as a materials preservative and on wood to prevent mold and sapstain. OIT is used as a preservative in various household products including paints, carpets and carpet backings, vinyl floors, mattress covers, rubber/polymer products (including slippers, gloves), foams (e.g., foam used in pillows and mattresses, shoe soles), adhesives, caulks, feather and down fill, textiles (e.g., upholstery, clothing and linens), and leather preservation.

OIT is used in industrial anti-corrosion (anti-mold and antibacterial in systems such as coatings, inks, adhesives, metalworking fluids, papermaking, and oilfield reinjection water);

Building materials (waterproof coatings, sealants, wood treatment agents, etc. for preventing microbial degradation);

Polymers and Plastics (Inhibiting microbial contamination of products during storage and use)
