Application:
Photographic developer for rubber, dye intermediates used as detergent corrosion inhibitor, stabilizer and antioxidant, pharmaceutical intermediates, are also used in cosmetics of hair dyes, rubber protective agent, stabilizer and antioxidant.
Hydroquinon is applied topically to treat disorders characterized by excessive melanin in the epidermis, such as melasma. Hydroquinon is a pigment-lightening agent used in bleaching creams. Hydroquinon combines with oxygen very rapidly and becomes brown when exposed to air. Although it occurs naturally, the synthetic version is the one commonly used in cosmetics. Application to the skin may cause allergic reaction and increase skin sun sensitivity.
