Introduction: 
The crystal structure of ZSM-5 molecular sieve is composed of silicon (aluminum) oxygen tetrahedron. The silicon (aluminum) oxygen tetrahedron forms a five-membered silicon (aluminum) ring through a common vertex oxygen bridge. Eight such five-membered rings form the basic structural unit of ZSM-5 molecular sieve. The pore structure of ZSM-5 molecular sieve is composed of straight cylindrical channels with an elliptical cross-section (channel size: 0.54×0.56nm) and approximately circular Z-shaped channels (channel size: 0.52×0.58nm). The size of the channel intersection is 0.9nm.
ZSM-5 molecular sieve has a regular pore structure, medium and large specific surface area, high hydrothermal stability, good ion exchange performance and rich and adjustable surface properties. Its unique pore structure not only provides spatial confinement for shape-selective catalysis, but also provides abundant entry and exit channels for reactants and products. It also provides opportunities for the preparation of industrial catalysts with high selectivity, high activity, and strong resistance to coking and deactivation. The basis of crystal structure.  ZSM-5 molecular sieve characteristics:
1.Thermal stability: ZSM-5 molecular sieve has excellent thermal stability. This characteristic is due to the structurally stable five-membered ring in its skeleton and the high silicon content of the skeleton. ZSM-5 molecular sieve is one of the known molecular sieves with the highest thermal and temperature properties. Therefore it is particularly suitable for use in high temperature processes. For example, when used as a hydrocarbon cracking catalyst, it can withstand high temperatures during catalyst regeneration.
2. Acid resistance: ZSM-5 molecular sieve has good acid resistance and can withstand various acids except hy drofluoric acid.
3. Hydrothermal stability: When molecular sieves encounter high-temperature water vapor, their structures are generally severely damaged, leading to irreversible deactivation. ZSM-5 molecular sieve has excellent hydrothermal stability and can be used as a catalyst for meth anol conversion (water is the main by-product).
4. Hydrophobicity: ZSM-5 molecular sieve has a high silicon-to-aluminum ratio and a small surface charge density. Water is a highly polar molecule, so it is not easily adsorbed by ZSM-5 molecular sieve. Although the diameter of water molecules is smaller than n -hexane, the adsorption capacity of ZSM-5 molecular sieve for n -hexane is generally greater than that of water.
5. Not easy to deposit carbon: The effective shape, size and bending of the pores of ZSM-5 molecular sieve prevent the formation and accumulation of macromolecular condensates. At the same time, there are no cages larger than the pores in the ZSM-5 molecular sieve framework, so the side reactions of condensation are limited, thereby reducing the possibility of carbon deposition on the ZSM-5 molecular sieve catalyst.
6. Excellent shape selectivity: Using ZSM-5 molecular sieve as a catalyst, only molecules smaller than the pore size can enter and exit. The progress of the catalytic reaction is controlled by the pore size of the zeolite. The molecular sieve catalyst affects the size and shape of the reactant and product molecules. Great selectivity.
