Propyl paraben can be used as a preservative, antioxidant, antimicrobial agent, and also in the pharmaceutical industry.

White crystal with a special odor. Propyl carboxybenzoate is a colorless fine crystalline or white crystalline powder, almost odorless, with a slight astringent taste.

A derivative of p-hydroxybenzoate. It can be prepared by reacting p-hydroxybenzoic acid with propanol in the presence of acidic ionic liquids. It crystallizes in monoclinic space group P21/c. According to reports, it is an endocrine disrupting compound.
